Organizing a Vanity Table in 1-2-3

Vanity table is the royal residence of all things that make us look pretty. But with our daily routines, it probably has succumbed to the ugly-- blotches of eye shadows and lipsticks, spilled liquid foundations, and nail polish streaks on the surface. It might need a little vain- ing to do as well-- a revamp.

Makeups 

• Allot one compartment in your vanity table that is solely for your makeup paraphernalia- foundations, pressed and loose powders, lipsticks, eye shadows, bronzers, blush-ons, concealers, eyeliners, and the likes. You can make use of metallic cases and trays. 

• If possible, provide separate compartments for each of them so they don't mix up, and put on labels.
• Place your everyday-makeup items on your vanity table and leave the others at the dresser, so they don't overcrowd. Make sure to store these items in a cool, dry place. Maybe a makeup bag which you can keep.
• Glass jars are elegant receptacles to keep cotton balls, makeup remover pads, and other small items.
• Also put your makeup brushes in one place. There are makeup organizers that are available in boutiques and online shops. But if things become too expensive, you can just store them in  vignettes or plastic containers. But brush off excess particles before putting them back to the container.

Accessories

• Wipe jewelries with damp cloth, and dry before storing. 
• Place earrings, neck-pieces, and rings with delicate beads or pendants in soft- linen (ed) interiors to maintain elegance.
• Assort accessories according to type-- bangles, arm candies, necklaces, wrist watches, brooches to easily locate them when needed.
• Hang neck- pieces on hooks, belt rack, or cork boards.
• If you have a lot of earrings, you can make use of earring caddy. 
  
  
  

• Avoid placing jewelries next to liquid solutions like perfumes to prevent damage.
• Put hair bands and scrunchies into boxes or plastic containers.
• For larger items like cravats, ties, hats, suspenders, scarves, gloves, hosiery, and muffs, place them in a separate compartment inside your closet.
• Stash delicate jewelries inside a drawer, if your vanity table has one.
• Throw, give away, or auction accessories that you don't anymore need or wear (on ebay, facebook and metro deals, for example).

Fragrance Bottles

• Don't place them in the part of the vanity table that will be exposed to direct heat and sunlight. Or store them in a cool place.
• Make sure they are all well- covered.
• Place what you regularly use on top.
• Arrange them on one side, or inside a tray.
• Place those with irregular shapes and colors beside each other for aesthetic purposes.

Vanity Table Inspiration: Womanly Hue

I'm a loudmouth with vanity tables since my previous post on tranquil blue-green pastel vanity table inspiration up to this post. In which case I can, most likely, be called vain. No, vanity-table vain. [laughs*]

My inspiration this time gives me that overjoyed and contented state of mind.

If you remember from my last post, I mentioned at the end that pinks are my kind of colors. And they are. The touch of lush pink in this first photo overruns with womanliness. What I like best about it is its perfect balance of functionality and design. The shabby table can accommodate more than enough personal items in it. Its white color is a perfect match for any other colors you can pair it with come the time that you want to give it a new look. The egg-crate mattress pad on the vanity chair does not only add soft details but also ward you off of uncalled-for 1st degree pressure sores, especially for long-time makeup periods. The light bulb mirror makes it also look celeb and posh, the likes of Victoria Beckham, Anna Wintour, or Cara Delivingne dolling up for a big runway show. Aaahh!

I like the stronger shade of pink in this second photo. The cushion pillows are the icing to the cake. The stylish perspective of this inspiration is also more exemplified by the wardrobe mannequin on the side. I like the fact that it also doesn't look too vanity-table-like. You can fiddle the idea of placing it on the living space without it looking like a serious bedroom piece- it's a double-purpose idea that is good for small spaces. What's nice with pink is that it symbolizes romance, tenderness, acceptance, and composure.

Word of advice here, is to combine strong or toned- down shades of pink with white or neutral color and add a statement piece to it. It maybe a vintage-style vanity chair, or a wardrobe mannequin. Or how about putting one of your voguish pair of stiletto on top of fashion and beauty books and place it on one side of the vanity table. Only make sure it's clean and almost good as new for it to deserve a considerable display. What do you think?

Vanity Table Inspiration: Tranquil Pastels

I drool for beautifully embellished homes and interior. There's a drawing power between me and  home decoration since play days. I watch lifestyle and home magazine shows more than TV listings other kids of my age would pay attention to. 

This interest spills over the confines of TV to printed finds, and even on-line. Whenever there's something I'm really inspired about, I write or print it in catalogs. Or more easily now, keep it in my virtual pinboard.

One important part of the home that I am mostly fascinated about is the private space. Simply because it says largely about one's personality and it's where most, if not all of us, are absolutely free to do whatever we want. 

In this post, I'd like to be more specific about private space and talk something more about vanity tables. I am thinking of making a series of posts that toss ideas about it.

A Vanity Table is a small table we place in one side of our bedroom. It's where we station our makeup, beautifying solutions, add-on candies, and fragrance bottles.

Here, are blue green pastel- themed vanity tables.

I like the mixture of cream color complimenting the powder blue pastel that dominates the entire corner. The vintage- style vanity chair adds beauty to the centerpiece without being overly distracting. The jack pine shade of green on the lamp, frame of the mirror, and trash can compliments the main color. Plus the transparent nature of the table itself gives it a larger illusion- perfect for a small space.

The combination of colors and texture in this vanity table inspiration creates a tranquil effect in the mood. I can only imagine patting subtle strokes of blush without worrying how it will look in day light. The fact that it's near the window and the powder blue color soothes my mood keeps me from pressure, perhaps even when I know I'm already late for brunch or an important meeting. It's just totally different with a dim and cluttered space.

In this second photo, the powder blue and jack pine shade of green is given a different perspective. The vintage vanity table and chair compliments well together. It's also comfortable to have added the polka dot-upholstered chair cushion. The touch of purple shades though gives it a more grown- up look, but it's as tranquil as the first photo. One thing functional about this inspiration is that the table has a drawer from which you can stash more things in.

The general idea is to mix pastel with vintage. And if it's blue, it will go well with green- a duochrome, in contrast with a natural color (white or cream).

The next vanity table inspiration would be from pastel shades of pink. My kind of color!

I am in absolute awe. Thanks to my now advertiser, Cath Kidston. It has become a large stopping-place for both home and fashion finds in unique and colorful vintage prints and patterns.

We are already close to observing the Season of Lent. Most of us will eventually celebrate Easter Sunday for the resurrection of Jesus and for the intention of spending quality time with our family.
